THE ELUCIDATION or Fort Sand Reduced
[This is a long poem, rhymed but not in verse form,
concerning the activities of children playing soldier during
the Revolutionary War.] . . . George Somerfell, a lad of
about 8 or 9 years old, had collected a little rebel
company! (as the enemy stiled them) of children, (boys and
girls) and assumed the rank and title of Capt. over them.
Miss Polly Peacock, of the same age, was first Lieutenant
and other children had their rank regularly down to Corporal
according to age, merit and patriotism. . .
After this hint, the subsequent verses may easily be
understood.
